SHALIMAR PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD

REGULAR MEETIN G – FEBRUARY 23, 2000

The regular meeting of the Shalimar Planning and Zoning Board was called to order by Chairman Eddie Phillips on Wednesday, February 23, 2000 at 6:35 p.m. He also led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

ROLL CALL FOR THE RECORD:
Chairman Eddie Phillips – present
Co-Chair Roy Pimental – absent
Secretary Ursel Behnken – present
Member Patty Culjak – present
Member Jimmy Jones – present
A quorum was present.

OLD BUSINESS:

I. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 26, 2000 MEETING – Patty Culjak moved to approve the minutes of the Jan. 26, 2000 meeting as written. It was seconded by Jimmy Jones and passed unanimously.

II. STATUS OF APPOINTMENT OF MITIGATION REPRESENTATIVE - Because we have not seen any movement on this issue, this item will be put in the March Tidbits to see if a resident will come forward and volunteer for this position.

NEW BUSINESS:

I. TOWN HALL VARIANCE REQUEST ON SWEET GUM TREE REMOVAL – Eddie Phillips said Town maintenance has moved the maintenance buildings around alongside the new fences and would now like to remove the tree to get more parking. After the board members went outside to see the site Jimmy Jones made the motion to table the matter until more information is available; have somebody from the Town available for questioning; and give the board a drawing of what is supposed to being done, like other residents have to do. The board also needs a more descriptive letter. It was seconded by Patty Culjak and passed unanimously.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

I. STATUS OF THE PARKS – Chairman Phillips read Rudy Sutton’s Memos dated Jan. 24, Feb. 2 and Feb. 11 for information

II. STATUS OF MEIGS PARK – This is a hot topic at present, said Chairman Phillips. Residents of Garnier’s Cay I and II are opposed to the dock at Meigs Park. They fear kids diving off the platform, an increase of trash and boat traffic, loud music etc. Also Rocky Bates, during the Commission meeting said that the Town cannot build the dock unless the homeowners give a waiver, but the rule seems to be that any owner with water front property of less than 65 ft. is allowed to put in a dock on the center line of his property. There were a lot of disenchanted people, said Mr. Phillips.

ADJOURNMENT: Jimmy Jones moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:10 p.m. It was seconded by Patty Culjak and passed unanimously.
