TOWN OF SHALIMAR
COMMISSION MEETING
JULY 10, 2001
CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the Shalimar Town Commission was called to order by Mayor Pro-Tem Elaine Tucker at 6:10 p.m. in Town hall chambers. She led the “Pledge of Allegiance” to the Flag.

OLD BUSINESS:
I. APPROVE MINUTES OF JUNE 12, 2001 TOWN COMMISSION MEETING - Commissioner Henderson moved to approve the minutes. Commissioner Reeves seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
II. TOWN ATTORNEY REPORT – No report; Attorney Mike Chesser was in Crestview at the 1-cent Sales Tax Meeting.
III. TOWN HALL RENOVATION – FINAL COST, ITEMS REMAINING – Town Manager Tom Burns reported that all of the town hall work is complete and all work has been paid for. The work was completed $1300 under budget.
IV. CHEROKEE PARK PROPERTY ACQUISITION – Senator Clary and Representative Melvin would like to be notified if we have any kind of ceremony for the grant check. If we do not have a ceremony we will send a Thank You letter signed by all of the commissioners along with a picture of the commissioners and the mayor with the check. Also, as per the Department of Community Affairs (DCA), we should not be expecting the DCA contract until August 15 but we can proceed with the property purchase. Commissioner Garcia asked if we had anything in writing from the DCA allowing us to buy and Manager Burns said that he would get something from DCA before anything is signed.
NEW BUSINESS:
I.
RESOLUTION 2001-11, SUPPORT OF MILITARY BASES – Supporting the
continued efforts and mission of the military development committee. Commissioner
Henderson moved to adopt Resolution 2001-11.
Commissioner Reeves seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
II. TOWN RESIDENTS’ TIME – MAYOR COMBS – Commissioner/Mayor Pro-Tem Tucker relayed a request from a non-resident regarding “no wake zone” signs. The request was for background information and Commissioner Henderson said that he would look for wake zone material.
MAYOR COMBS REPORT:
I. OKALOOSA COUNTY LEAGUE OF CITIES REPORT – Commissioner Tucker used this time to explain that the Mayor was at the 1-cent sales tax meeting at Florida League of Cities request.
II. WEB PAGE – Commissioner Tucker asked everyone to make sure that they have their updated bios in so that they can be revised and added to the site.
COMMISSIONER TUCKER'S
REPORT:
I. FY01 FINANCIAL STATUS REPORT – Commissioner Tucker passed out a spreadsheet containing current FY expenditure data.
II. COUNTY ONE-CENT SALES TAX REFERENDUM – Commissioner Tucker briefed details of the “Penny for Progress” committee and that Shalimar has citizen representation on this committee.
III. FY02 BUDGET REVIEW SCHEDULES – Commissioner Tucker related that the date for Budget Workshop #2 would be 17 July.
COMMISSIONER GARCIA'S
REPORT:
I. MANDE COURT STREET LIGHT REQUEST – Commissioner Garcia briefed that the light was replaced and will be monitored for adequacy.
COMMISSIONER REEVES'
REPORT:
I. Commissioner Reeves stated that the July Northwest Florida League of Cities meeting that was supposed to take place in Shalimar was cancelled. It will now be in Defuniak Springs.
COMMISSIONER
HENDERSON'S REPORT:
I.
HIRING PROCESS – Commissioner Henderson advised that they
had hired a part time employee, Lisa Cutter, and are going to offer another
applicant a full time position this week.
Asked about bike patrol; not sure yet.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
REPORT:
I. MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT - (Included in binder) Commissioner Tucker reminded everyone that school would be back in session soon and to make sure to adjust the police schedule as appropriate.
TOWN MANAGER UPDATE:
III. VANGUARD BANK PROPERTY – EGLIN AND RICHBOURG – Town Manager Burns briefed that the property is still scheduled for demolition. Commissioner Tucker suggested that we document the property with photos. Commissioner Garcia volunteered to check with Eglin A.F.B. and find out whether the structure has any historical significance.
IV. SALE OF SHALIMAR YACHT BASIN – Town Manager Burns briefed the names of the new owners.

ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Garcia moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:19 p.m. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Henderson and passed unanimously.
