ORDINANCE 98-05

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 94-05 BY INCREASING THE UTILITY TAX RATE ON ELECTRICITY FOR THE TOWN OF SHALIMAR, FLORIDA AND AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 98-03

WHEREAS, Ordinance No., 84-03 establishes a utility tax rate for the Town of Shalimar; and

WHEREAS, In ordinance 94-05 the electric utility rate was decreased to five per cent (5%) and

WHEREAS, This decrease was determined to have been made in error

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED:

 Section I. T hat the ten percent (10%) utility tax rate provided in Ordinance 84-03 be continued for gas, water, base rate telephone service, and electric service.

Section II. A ten (10%) percent utility tax rate will be levied on gas, water, telephone service and electric. The tax on electricity authorized herein shall not be levied and collected on the first 500 kilowatt hours per month purchased for residential use. Such exemption shall apply to each separate residential unit, regardless ofwhether such unit is on a separate or central meter, and shall be passed on to each individual tenant.

Section III. This ordinance shall become effective after the second and final reading and adopted by the Shalimar Town Commission and become effective October 1, 1998.
